Tansy info Required

Last August we trapped this Tansy Plume (moth) by the cabin - a first record for Calderdale. The identity is "beyond reasonable doubt" but it would be nice to find out if there was any of it's foodplant growing on the reserve to tie in with this record.

So, does anybody know of any Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) patches on the reserve or close by?

Hi Charlie

Tansy - Tanacetum vulgare has been recorded on the reserve. Unfortunately I am not aware of it's location.

See our website. https://cromwellbottom.wordpress.com/species-lists-from-cromwell-bottom/flowering-plants/

Thanks for that Bruce, I'm sure I've seen some but never thought anything of it so didn't make a mental note. I'll keep an eye this summer.

Tansy was noted on the elland side of Broookfoot lock house circa 2013/14 supporting 8 species of Ladybird 9 Species hoverflies 2 Spp Bees, and GSB Green SB . There are 6 transient sites around the reserve following proximal watercourse. The Brookfoot spit is likely a planting and probably will appear on the slope leading to the river when it is overgrown Its appearance year on year can be sporadic . Its distinctive smell on crushing leaves is an insecticide . Horsey people hang bouqets around stables to deter them

Thanks Colin, that's very helpful. I'll have to make sure may plant ID's up to scratch and see if I can find any larval workings. Be nice to get a photo of a freshly emerged moth instead of the scruffy one we had light.
