No Publicly Owned Forest Sell Off

Linda has just sent me this.

Dear Bruce,

I thought you might be interested to know, as someone who contacted me about this issue two years ago, that the Government has today announced it will not be selling off publicly owned forests in the UK. I am delighted at this news which is a victory for the campaign that was launched to stop the Government plans to sell of our forests.

I have attached the news link, which sets out more information. I hope that is helpful.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you require any further information.

Yours sincerely,                        Link to story here.

Weekends Birdies

Managed to get down at weekend - very nice in the snow.
Quite a few birds were very adaptable & quick to take advantage of any food source, like the buzzing Robin on the fat bell - in Allan's pictures.
A few different feeding habits:

Robins were quick to get onto the fat balls

Bullfinches tried the peanuts

Blackbirds always try out any fruit

Siskin cleaned the nyger off the lid

& the vacuum cleaners came back on Sunday

Other Bird pictures from lurking around the station:

We seem to have a very healthy population of Bullfinches!
A very nice Saturday was had by all - good bird numbers & nice bit of sunshine on the snow.

Useful Freeze?

I know Robin promised a boat for doing the work in the lagoons, but if they freeze hard enough, couldn't the work be done on foot ?

If so, I'd recommend large polypropelene builders sheets (tarpaulins or tarps) for dragging the stuff off.

Golf shoes would give a better grip for the pullers.
