From the undergrowth

A few from today , jays are starting to make the most out of the feeders and the usual suspects are moving in slowly. No Little Egret today though.

Last nights visit by eight members of the "41 Club" and four from the Cromwell Bottom Group was very enjoyable. The evening weather was perfect. Graham, our Chair ably described the site and its ancient and modern history. Many rare and interesting plants were shown as were lots of projects that have been completed or ongoing. Amongst the finds was the fungi shown below.

Brown Birch Boletes

This Brown Birch Boletes is about 9" across. It's the biggest I have seen.

The smaller one below was turned over and the underside shown. The spots look unusual as I cannot find that feature in the book.

Many thanks to Alison for final I.D.

A short visit to CB produced masses of fungi. Probably 2 separate species here. All need I.D. although one looks like fly agaric but I have my doubts. Picture 3 and 4 were in their hundreds. Its going to be a bumper autumn for fungi - wet and warm. A song thrush had a look in as well!

Grasshopper Warbler

There was a Grasshopper Warbler reeling very briefly on Sunday the 18th. It flew from the riverside scrub area into the undergrowth - where they've been seen in previous years, by the bend in the river below the metal bridge.
No photos, unfortunately as it was very elusive !

Work Party August 10th

Robin, Graham, David, Shelagh, John and Bruce made up the work party who  tidied up the feeding area and added a further screen. Robin strimmed the long grass and brambles.

The seats and shelves were fitted
