Saturday 31st March. As I walked round the reserve there were lots of chiff-chaffs (6) Heard two Willow Warblers singing and saw my first Black Cap(Male) plus 1 Red poll on the feeders. Is this the last of these winter visitors? Any more sighting of them? It will be intesting to try to document when they leave. The niger seed I am putting down is certainly lasting longer.

Hi Allan
We called in yesterday (Sunday) and the only redpoll around was a mealy. Occasionally some redpoll stay to breed. Mealy redpoll however are a winter visitor.
Barry said he had only 1 mealy all day on the feeders.
I did my usual "hang around" & there were 2 redpoll females with red heads, 1 Redpoll female with no Red head at all, & our Mealy which can now get to the feeders without a beating!
A few Goldfinch are now getting to the feeders as the Redpolls are not in big numbers.
Just for the records as well 17 cycles were seen around the Station & the number of Dogs running around uncontrolled is getting silly, one pair of fellas had 7 dogs running loose & seemed to be struggling to get them to do what they were told.
Also the number of people I heard discussing taking one of the feeders & also watched going down to the new table area - until they spotted me was disgusting.
It may be a good idea to remove some of them until winter! as the number of Muppets will increase expodentially with the amount of sunny days!
I had two redpolls ,singing/song flight and copulating about 2 weeks ago bt the iron bridge.?
