Nicely found Barry i would not have put my money on the kestrel.
ReplyDeleteI would have agreed with you last year - But I watched a Juv Peregrine beating up Herring Gulls at South Stack a few weeks back. It was done just for fun as the Falcon had realized it's superior Ariel skills & dominated the bigger slower gulls. That Kestrel will have been in, grabbed, & off before the Barn Owl even knew what hit it. I watch Kestrels near work get mugged of their voles by a gang of Magpies. Most wildlife it seems will steal their grub if the opportunity arises, & it's less effort than finding your own!
